I have been a “Big Brother” for over 9 years to a boy (he is now 19 and a very nice gentleman) who lives in Peabody, MA through the Big Brothers’ Program. During these wonderful years, my wife and I have become part of his family and they have become part of our family. It was terrific to learn that his sister, Brianny, was awarded the Academic Excellence in Business Technology at Peabody High School last night. Congratulations Brianny and this is a great way to cap-off your senior year of high school! Good luck at Bentley University when you start this Fall.

We eliminated the small patch of grass that existed between the sidewalk and the street for this Andover, MA family by planting a variety of drought tolerant perennials and installing a section of drip irrigation.

We installed recessed lights to uplight some of the trees within this wooded section of the property. By installing three lights, we were able to achieve a smooth, consistent level of ambient lighting on the canopies of many of these trees.

This garden welcomes this Andover family every time they approach the entrance to their driveway. The garden was created in April 2012 and includes roses, allium, a tree, some evergreens and many flowering perennials as well as some boulders.

For this Andover, MA family we planted 3 Elm Trees (a variety that is resistant to Dutch Elm Disease) on each side of the driveway. The goal is that the canopies of these trees will grow into each other and create a covering over the driveway. This allee will be a dramatic entrance way and will provide additional interest along this fairly long driveway.

We finished building the natural stone wall with a ‘dry laid’ look as well as completed the walkway, plantings and installed a landscape lighting system. Here are a couple of views of the new front entrance way for this North Andover, MA family.

Our goal was to illuminate the granite steps for this North Andover family, thus we installed the landscape light fixtures directly into the wall, as we built their natural stone wall. Additional lights were also mortared directly into the wall to enhance the overall appearance of the wall and the landscape.

As we were building this wall, the temperature was dropping to freezing or below each night. Thus, we covered the walls with insulated masonry blankets to ensure that the mortar would have sufficient time to cure and ‘harden up’. We used these blankets almost every night.
