Stonework during the Winter

The weather has been very good for us building stonewalls this winter. We have built several stonewalls and a set of steps this winter. This Rowley family is having build two natural stone walls and improving their landscape by creating new planting beds and planting a few strategic trees that will provide some screening and privacy. Prior to the ground freezing, we excavated for the base of each wall and installed crushed stone for our footing. We compacted this crushed stone and built a tent over our work area. We used a portable heater and some masonry blankets so that the mortar would cure correctly.
